GLHF presents Soft Power, an exhibit of newly created collage work by Carl Vestweber. Soft Power is the route chosen by those who wish to accomplish their goals through persuasion. While some people, nations, or corporations may seek their goals through aggression and intimidation, soft power exists as an alternate strategy to convince instead of impose. But how can soft power navigate more chaotic times, when conversation and debate feel useless? Soft Power, the exhibit provides meditations and observations, along with a dose of humor, on these themes.
Carl Vestweber’s work spans a diverse range of media, including drawing, sculpture, and collage. While the materials may vary, certain themes of humor, contemporary culture, and the dynamics of power structures emerge and intertwine to reflect his own personal perceptions and experiences.
Carl Vestweber is an artist working primarily with collage and mixed media. Born in Iowa, Vestweber attended the art program at UT Pan American in 2011 before receiving his MFA from SMFA/Tufts in 2013. Vestweber has been exhibiting his artwork since 2004. Currently based in South Texas, Vestweber works as a lecturer at UTRGV in Brownsville, Texas.
